Wild Geese

geese

You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting —
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.

Introducing…

the newest member of our family. His name is Emmett. He is lovable, sweet, curious and he chose us to be his new family. Emmett doesn’t have a big story, he was found in my hometown in Nebraska a while ago. My mom volunteers at the local shelter and takes care of the cats at their “kitty house” (you can see some previous members here ).  While we were back for the holidays, the kids and I went and helped my mom. As soon as we got there, Emmett climbed into my son’s arms and he’s been in our hearts ever since. We even made a special trip back there to get him!

So here he is:

Emmett the cat

He is around 2 years old and is at least part Bengal. Bengals are a really cool breed of cat. They have a funny meow and very cool patterns on them. Emmett has a bulls-eye on each side and has stripes all over.  They say that Bengals act more like dogs than cats and that a lot of times, people who are allergic to cats aren’t nearly as allergic to Bengals.  So far, we are finding this true…. my husband is very allergic to cats and he is tolerating him very well. :) Our dogs are learning to behave around him, Molly is really matter of fact when it comes to him, as long as she can nap in the living room, she can share. Daisy looks at him like a plaything and will have to take some time to get used to him.

Although Emmett can be very dog-like (he prefers our dogs’ water dish!), he is very cat-like when it comes to baths:

and he really enjoys his naps:

You can see his cool stripes better here:

Emmett has made himself at home very quickly. I don’t think any of us can imagine our house without him now!

Good Golly Miss Molly

(and Hello Daisy!)

A few of my doggies.

Molly has multiple personality syndrome (or is just a really good actress). At home she is a wild, holy terror (when she is not hogging the furniture). In public, she is the perfect dog, gentle, quiet and as obedient as possible. She is almost 7 years old (and the puppiness is still there).

YAWN.

Pretending to be regal. She pretends to be Queen (but only when Daisy isn’t watching).

If you have never had a Basset Hound, you can not fully appreciate the word “stubborn”. Here’s Daisy (she prefers not to share her age) :

Did you know she can eat a box of crayons in 30 seconds flat?

Raining Cats and Dogs

This weekend I spent out in Nebraska (it was my High School Reunion!). My mom is pretty active with the animals, she helps out with Adopt-a-pet in the Cat House and then also works with my brother’s dog, Lucy, They go on playdates and go to training. Lots of fun!! So while we were out there we got to go with her.

I used to work at a Veterinary Clinic and really enjoyed my time there. All creatures have a special place in my heart, so to get to spend some time with so many was just heaven!!

The photos look off here, click on them to see them full size~ need to get that figured out here on the blog.

Sadie: She’s a Canine Good Citizen!!

Dash- my son’s favorite and a very smart dog!

This is getting long, but I really have to share!! While all the dogs above have happy, loving homes, ALL the cats shown below are in need of good homes. They have some good care where they are at, but nothing compares to a home of their own. Sharing with 30 other cats is not ideal! If you are in the York, Nebraska area (or just fall in love with a cat here!), please contact York Adopt-a-Pet to help these guys out.

There seriously was a TON of orange cats! It was so hard to keep them all straight.

This is Roger- he is named after my dad!!

Addie~ she is so pretty!

This is Gary! He was playing it up for me.

Kitten Pile!

Prudence: she likes the top of the TV!

Just a bit of attitude…

with a little help from a bunny.

A quick reminder… the fall season is filling up fast!! Please schedule your sessions as soon as possible in order to get in before the holidays. :)

How Cool is this?

You just plug in your blog address- and it comes up with cool words from your site. :) How fun!! You can do it at http://wordle.net/

14 inches

I have been growing my hair out for about 3 years now. It started above my chin and ended up at the middle of my back. Well, this past week I decided it was time to chop it off. We ended up donating 14 inches to Locks of Love. By the time it was cut into shape, I lost about 16 inches!

It is now back up to my chin and its amazing how much faster it is washing it, combing it, drying it… pretty much everything is faster. So here is a before and after look (please excuse the blurry after self-portrait, I don’t have any of my “assistants” here to take a pic for me).

Have a great day!

On the way to the Castle

Just a note- this summer has been extremely busy (but very fun!) and the schedule is filling up very quickly. I can’t believe how fast it is going. Sessions are now being scheduled for Mid-AUGUST and SEPTEMBER. Now is the time to be scheduling Senior Sessions and Fall Sessions. Due to the limited schedule, times are booking up quickly!

Have a wonderful week! Enjoy your summer!

Snow

Somebody painted

The trees last night,

 Crept in and colored them

White on white.

When I awoke,

The tree limbs shone

As white as milk,

As bleached as bone
